Ayurveda
Ayurveda is one of the few systems of medicine developed in ancient times that is still widely practiced in the modern era. Although there are wide claims and counterclaims to its efficacy and current status in modern medicine, Ayurveda can be considered to be a general guide to good health and practices while looking at the body with a holistic approach. Modern medicine has no cure or treatment for neurological disorders and most of the treatment provided is symptomatic. With Ayurveda, patients are looking at a support system of building up immunity and also help in conjunction with physiotherapy in the form of treatment, like various massages, topical applications and oral medications and a selective diet based on the condition of the patient.
During consultation, the patient's history and all information pertaining to the disorder or discomfort is recorded. Based on the evaluation the patient is provided with a diet chart, followed by a prescription for topical applications or oral medication. For chronic cases, the following treatments are suggested:
Abhyangam - It is one of the most important procedures in ayurvedic therapy with specific oils used according to one's constitution. This procedure improves blood circulation, relaxes tired muscles and helps in pain management. Treatment Duration 7,14,21 days.
Kativasti - It is a procedure done to relieve pain in the lower back, relieve stiffness in the lower back and limbs. This is specifically done for the spinal issues, disc prolapse etc.
Pizhichil - This is done to provide extra nourishment to the muscles using a rasayanam. It completely rejuvenates the body and is helpful in treating nervous disorders.
Navarakizhi - This is a massage using a special rice (navara) porridge. It is used to treat neuromuscular disorders like muscular dystrophy, muscle weakness etc. Shirodhara - This is specifically used to treat insomnia, premature greying of hair, memory loss, neurological disorders and relieves a person from stress and anxiety.
Udvarthanam -A procedure of rubbing dry herbal powders to decrease kapha dosha (phlegm) in the body. This is also helpful in reducing cellulite content and fat. All the above treatments can be provided in-house after consultation with our Ayurvedic Physician.
